Jatoba is distributed throughout Central America, southern Mexico, northern South America, and the West Indies. There are hundreds of diverse biochemical compounds produced by the tree and distributed throughout its leaves, bark, and gum. Observations of its use by Indigenous people has led to it being incorporated into modern herbal medical practices. A hard wood in overall strength, it has energy strength as well as a purifying quality.
